Murder charges were reinstated against an Illinois woman who was accused of lethally poisoning a local police chief's food with eyedrops. Charges were dropped against Marcy Oglesby, 51, in March after the trial judge sided with her defense team's argument that Oglesby was deprived of her right to a speedy trial.  An Illinois appeals court overturned that decision, and Olgesby is back in jail on charges of first-degree murder and concealing the death of a person in connection with Richard Young's gruesome death.

NAUVOO, Ill. — The Angel Moroni statue atop the Nauvoo Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was replaced Tuesday, according to Church officials. The statue was damaged over the summer when it was struck by lightning and Tuesday’s repair took place during a previously scheduled closure. According to officials, the fiberglass statues serve as both symbolic landmarks and lightning rods, attracting lightning strikes away from other parts of temples.

NEW YORK (AP) — Alan Ladd Jr., the Oscar-winning producer and studio boss who as a 20th Century Fox executive greenlit “Star Wars,” has died. He was 84. Ladd died Wednesday, his daughter Amanda Ladd-Jones, who directed the documentary “Laddie: The Man Behind the Movies,” wrote in a Facebook post. No cause of death was given. Ladd Jr., the son of “Shane” star Alan Ladd, started in the film business as his father’s stuntman but rose to become one of its leading — and most widely liked — executives.
