The Charlotte Fire Dept. said a third alarm was called for the fire.

There appears to be a man still at the top of a crane with the fire below it.

WSOC said the fire is at an apartment building that was under construction.

Charlotte Fire asked residents not to call 911 unless it is an emergency.

No information has been made available about injuries, but paramedics confirmed they were at the scene along with police and firefighters.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. said the following roads were closed as first responders worked the scene:

  • Liberty Row Drive
  • Fairview Road
  • Assembly Street
  • Barclay Downs Drive
  • Park South Drive

A nearby retirement home, The Barclay, gathered its residents in the lobby, but they were not told to evacuate.
